Properly caring for baby skin

PREFACE

The skin of your newborn baby is not yet fully developed and still loses more water. In addition, a baby's skin is up to 5 times thinner than an adult's skin. It cannot yet protect itself and is therefore still dependent on external help in the form of care from the mother or father.

But how can you help your baby to take adequate care of its skin?

It's very easy!

We all know it, most babies love to be bathed. However, this removes important fats from the skin that are supposed to protect it from drying out. If your baby tends to have dry skin, you can simply add a moisturizing solution. This could consist of olive oil with a little breast milk, for example, or a special baby product from the drugstore that is based on water and oil.

In general, a bath should not last longer than 5 minutes in the first few months of life. You can then wrap your child in a warm, woolly towel, perhaps pre-warmed. Then it is best to dab the baby dry from top to bottom using dabbing movements. It is best to talk to your baby and play with him a bit. When drying, it is particularly important to make sure that the areas behind the ears, on the neck, under the chin and other skin folds are dried thoroughly, as the water that has collected there can soften the skin.

Herbal Alternatives for Delicate Baby Skin

Baby skin that is not medium to strong does not require daily care. Your baby's skin is particularly stressed by external influences such as cold or heat. Using a baby product with pure plant oil (such as shea butter or pantheol) will provide your baby's skin with essential fatty acids.

TIP : Mineral oils (paraffin oils) do not allow the skin to breathe, as these oils form a kind of film over the skin and are therefore not absorbed by your baby's skin.

Which cream for cold weather?

You can also protect and care for your baby's skin in the cold winter. If you do go out into the winter wonderland, always make sure that your baby's face is well protected. A cream with a high fat and low water content is ideal for this. And why?

Because water conducts the cold more quickly and therefore cools down your baby's skin. Creams enriched with chamomile and pantheon protect the skin optimally because they form a protective film. This allows the skin to breathe and keeps the cold at bay. But when it comes to caring for your baby's skin, too much is not always good! Because it should support the skin, not be a burden. Just see which products your baby tolerates and it's best to stick to the same products, because too many different products could cause irritation.
